Matamec Explorations Anounces Start of Winter Exploration Programme on Sakami Project

02/20/01 - VAL-D'OR, QUEBEC--The management of Matamec Explorations Inc. is pleased to announce that exploration work has resumed last week on the Sakami property.

The winter 2001 exploration programme comprises the realization of two geophysical surveys (magnetometer and induced polarization) on a grid system newly established. These geophysical surveys will allow to determine the geophysical signatures of Zones 23, 25 and 26 and trace their lateral and depth extension in order to identify priority drill targets.

Later in March this work will be followed by a diamond drill programme (comprising between 3000 and 4000m) to test the continuity of the auriferous zones. A second drilling progamme (comprising between 3000 and 4000m) is also scheduled for next summer.

Late last summer, channel samples cut perpendicular to the main structual fabric within a large fault zone located at the contact between two geological sub-provinces returned the following results:

1.9 g/t Au over 9.7 m (31.8') for Zone 23
1.7 g/t Au over 20.8 m (68.3') for Zone 25
2.1 g/t Au over 9.97 m (32.7') for Zone 26.

In addition, to better evaluate the average gold grade across the entire fault zone enclosing the above described gold zones, additional samples (one meter sample interval) were systematically collected between these auriferous zones from the eastern edge of Zone 23 to western limit of Zone 26. Assay results returned a compounded average grade of 1.04 g/t Au over a true thickness of 119.5m (392').

All assays were performed by Itertek Testing Services - Chimitec (Bondar Clegg) and Bourlamaque laboratories located in Val-d'Or.
