About Rare Earths

Listed on TSX-V (MAT), Matamec is a junior mining exploration company which explores in Quebec and Ontario for precious and strategic metals. Foreseeing the trend of increased uses for rare earth elements (REEs) and rare metals, Matamec began exploring for them in 2007.

The demand for REEs and rare metals is constantly increasing due to the uses of these minerals in a vast array of everyday devices like computers, cellular phones, batteries, solar cells, wind turbines, hybrid cars and hundreds of other useful applications with more on the way.

For rare metals, Matamec’s Quebec Tansim Property is currently being explored using of the Tanco Mine (Manitoba) model, the only mine which produces tantalum, cesium and lithium in pegmatites in North America. As regards to REEs, Matamec explores the Zeus Property (Quebec) which includes the near surface Kipawa deposit, but also several other zones and showings.

The Kipawa deposit is promising because it could yield heavy REEs of which experts say the world supply will become scarce in 2014 because of limited production in China, especially yttrium, terbium and dysprosium.
